Rewards & the rift economy
Everything you need for the legendary path comes out of the rift economy: Rift Dust from every cleared stage, Rift Shards made from Dust, and Apex Tokens from finishing the hardest rifts. This page covers what each rift pays out and what those currencies are for.
What a rift pays out
Every participant is paid individually, so playing in a group does not dilute your share. The one exception is the small consolation after a defeat, which is a single pool split between the party (see Wipes and abandoned rifts).
| Reward | When you get it |
|---|---|
| Rift Dust | Every stage you clear, rolled for each participant |
| Cobblemon bonus loot | Every stage you clear, rolled separately for each participant |
| Completion loot | Once, when the whole rift is cleared |
| Apex Token | Once, when a Volatile or Chaotic rift is fully cleared |
| Rift Trophy | A 10% chance on a full clear of a multi-stage rift |
Rewards for a stage arrive as soon as that stage is cleared, and you keep them even if you retreat or the party is wiped on a later stage. Completion loot, Apex Tokens and the Rift Trophy are only paid when you clear every stage. A chat line summarizes each payout, for example "Incursion rewards: +24 Rift Dust".
If your inventory is full, the remainder is held for you and delivered once you have space (and when you next log in), so nothing is lost.
Rift Dust
Rift Dust is the base currency. Each cleared stage rolls an amount of Dust within a range set by the rift's tier, and every participant receives that full amount.
| Tier | Stages | Dust per stage (by default) | Average full clear |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fading | 1 | 9 to 15 | 12 |
| Stable | 1 | 18 to 30 | 24 |
| Unstable | 2 | 14 to 22 | 36 |
| Volatile | 3 | 12 to 20 | 48 |
| Chaotic | 5 | 14 to 24 (15 to 25 on the final stage) | 96 |
Anomalies on a stage can add a percentage bonus to that stage's Dust, such as the Rich Vein anomaly. When a bonus applies, you get a chat message such as "Anomalies added +15% to this stage's Rift Dust." Higher tiers can carry larger bonuses.
Wipes and abandoned rifts
If a party is wiped or the incursion is called off, you keep the Dust from stages you already cleared. You also get a small consolation payment that is shared out among the party:
| Tier | Consolation Dust (total, by default) |
|---|---|
| Fading | 3 |
| Stable | 5 |
| Unstable | 8 |
| Volatile | 12 |
| Chaotic | 20 |
Retreating between stages pays no consolation, because it counts as a safe exit with your stage rewards in hand. It also pays no completion loot, Apex Token or Rift Trophy.
Rift Shards
Rift Dust is mostly used in compressed form. Nine Rift Dust in a crafting grid make one Rift Shard, and a single Rift Shard turns back into nine Dust at any time.
Shards are the main ingredient for Omens, the Legendary Crystal, the Convergence Altar and the Crystal Pouch. The Resonator is the exception: it is made from loose Rift Dust. See Items, blocks & recipes for every recipe.
Apex Tokens
Every participant who completes a Volatile or Chaotic rift receives one Apex Token. Fading, Stable and Unstable rifts do not pay them, and a retreat or wipe never does.
Apex Tokens are the gate to the endgame. You spend them on:
- Volatile Omens and Chaotic Omens (2 each)
- Legendary Crystals (1 each)
- Convergence Altars (1 each)
Cobblemon bonus loot
On top of Dust, every cleared stage rolls the tier's bonus loot table once for each participant. Each trainer rolls their own loot, so you will not all get the same items. Lower tiers pay out supplies and Poké Balls; higher tiers move on to candy, training items, held items and rare ability items.
These are the default contents. Servers can change them with datapacks, so what you see may differ.
| Tier | Per-stage bonus loot (one pick from each group) |
|---|---|
| Fading | 2 to 4 Apricorns of one random color; and one of Potion, Remedy, Poké Ball (2 to 4) or Exp. Candy XS |
| Stable | A berry or remedy (Oran, Sitrus, Lum, Pecha, Remedy, Fine Remedy); and Great Balls, Exp. Candy XS or Exp. Candy S |
| Unstable | Ultra Balls, Exp. Candy M, a Feather or a Mochi; and a roughly 3 in 10 chance of an evolution stone (Fire, Water, Thunder, Leaf, Ice, Sun, Moon or Shiny Stone) |
| Volatile | Exp. Candy L, a vitamin or a mint (Adamant, Modest or Timid); and a held item or Ability Capsule (Choice Band, Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, Leftovers, Focus Sash, Life Orb, Assault Vest) |
| Chaotic | Exp. Candy XL, Rare Candy or Exp. Candy L; and a held item, stone or ability item (Choice Band, Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, Life Orb, Assault Vest, Eviolite, Weakness Policy, Dawn/Dusk/Shiny/Moon Stone, Ability Capsule, Ability Patch) |
Some run bonuses you can pick between stages, such as Prospector (25% more bonus loot), Motherlode (50% more) and Treasure Hunter (75% more), add extra rolls of this loot. They never change Dust, Apex Tokens or wipe consolation.
Completion loot
Clearing the final stage of a rift adds a completion roll for every participant. It repeats that tier's per-stage loot and adds an extra pool:
| Tier | Extra completion loot (by default) |
|---|---|
| Fading | Poké Balls (4 to 7), Super Potion or Exp. Candy S |
| Stable | Great Balls (4 to 7), Exp. Candy S or Exp. Candy M |
| Unstable | Ultra Balls (3 to 5), Exp. Candy M, Exp. Candy L, Expert Belt or Ability Capsule |
| Volatile | Exp. Candy L, Exp. Candy XL, Rare Candy or Ability Capsule, plus a 1 in 25 chance of an Ability Patch |
| Chaotic | Exp. Candy XL, Rare Candy or Ability Capsule, plus a 1 in 10 chance of an Ability Patch |
Clearing the capstone (final stage) of a multi-stage rift, meaning an Unstable, Volatile or Chaotic rift, also adds one roll from a capstone table tied to the final boss. By default that is either Exp. Candy XL or Rare Candy, or an Ability Capsule or Ability Patch.
Rift Trophy
A full clear of an Unstable, Volatile or Chaotic rift gives each participant an independent 10% chance at a Rift Trophy. It is a cosmetic keepsake that shows the species of the capstone boss you beat (for example "Mewtwo Rift Trophy") and the date you received it.
- It has no combat or currency use.
- It does not stack.
- Loot bonuses such as Prospector or Treasure Hunter cannot raise the chance.
- Fading and Stable rifts are single-stage and never drop one.
Omens
An Omen raises one rift by exactly one tier. Hold the Omen and right-click the rift. The rift must be waiting for challengers: you cannot use one while an incursion is under way or while the rift is cooling down after one.
| Omen | Use it on | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Stable Omen | Fading rift | Stable |
| Unstable Omen | Stable rift | Unstable |
| Volatile Omen | Unstable rift | Volatile |
| Chaotic Omen | Volatile rift | Chaotic |
Omens must be applied in order, one tier at a time. You can stack several Omens on the same rift to climb more than one tier. An upgraded rift gets a new set of bosses for its new tier, and its lifetime restarts at the new tier's full duration.
Omens are craftable only. No rift drops them. A Fading Omen exists in the creative tab for color reference and does nothing.
| Omen | Recipe (see Items, blocks & recipes for the layout) |
|---|---|
| Stable Omen | 4 Rift Shards, 2 Emeralds, 2 Leaf Stones, 1 Diamond |
| Unstable Omen | 4 Rift Shards, 2 Gold Ingots, 2 Thunder Stones, 1 Stable Omen |
| Volatile Omen | 4 Rift Shards, 2 Apex Tokens, 2 Fire Stones, 1 Unstable Omen |
| Chaotic Omen | 3 Rift Shards, 2 Apex Tokens, 1 each of Leaf, Water, Fire and Thunder Stone |
Chaotic rifts never appear on their own. The Chaotic Omen is the only way to make one, and a Chaotic rift is the only place a legendary can be attuned. See Legendary Crystals & attunement.
Crystal Pouch
The Crystal Pouch is a 27-slot bag for crystals and rift supplies. Right-click while holding it to open it. Items inside keep all their data, including a crystal's charge and attunement. A pouch cannot hold another pouch.
Crystals inside a pouch are ignored when charge is awarded. This is deliberate, so you can choose exactly which crystal gets charged by keeping the others in the pouch. It also means you must carry the crystal you want charged in your inventory. See Legendary Crystals & attunement.
You craft it from 4 Leather, 1 String and 1 Rift Shard.
What a legendary costs
Putting the whole path together for a single legendary attempt:
| Step | Rift Shards | Apex Tokens |
|---|---|---|
| Stable, Unstable, Volatile and Chaotic Omens | 15 | 4 |
| Legendary Crystal | 8 | 1 |
| Convergence Altar (reusable) | 3 | 1 |
| Total | 26 | 6 |
That is 234 Rift Dust worth of Shards and six Apex Tokens, one per full clear of a Volatile or Chaotic rift. It is the minimum for a first attempt, and every player who clears the same rifts earns their own tokens. Crystals are spent when you seal a legendary, so each further attempt needs another Crystal and another trip through a Chaotic rift for its attunement.
