Convergence & sealing

The Convergence is the final raid of the legendary path. You spend an attunement at a Convergence Altar to pull the legendary into an arena, your group defeats it, and the survivors each get one chance to seal it and start a normal catch battle.

You need these first:

  • A Legendary Crystal that is 100% charged and attuned.
  • A Convergence Altar, made from 3 Rift Shards, 1 Apex Token and 3 Obsidian.
  • Friends, if you want them. Up to six trainers can fight by default.

Placing and mining it back

Place the Altar like any block. Anyone can use it, and anyone can break it, so ask your server about land protection before you build it somewhere public.

Mine the Altar with an iron or better pickaxe to get it back as an item; with anything weaker it drops nothing. It is as hard to break as an enchanting table. You can move it whenever you like, and it keeps any cooldown it has.

Do not break the Altar during a Convergence. Removing it ends the Convergence in progress, and everyone inside is sent home.

Starting a Convergence

  1. Hold your charged, attuned crystal in your main hand.
  2. Right-click the Altar.

If everything checks out:

  • You are teleported to the Convergence arena, where the legendary waits at level 85.
  • The crystal loses its attunement but keeps its charge. The crystal is not consumed.
  • The whole server sees a chat announcement along the lines of "Player has opened a Convergence against Mewtwo!"
  • The Altar shows a glowing portal that lists the species and how many trainers have been admitted, for example Mewtwo • 1/6.

Arriving in the Convergence arena: Articuno waits, with the boss bar and Cheers counter at the top

If something goes wrong before the fight is created, nothing is spent. You see "The Convergence could not be opened. Your Crystal is unharmed."

The Altar refuses to start one in these cases:

You seeReason
"Hold an attuned, charged Legendary Crystal to begin the Convergence."You are not holding a Legendary Crystal in your main hand
"This Crystal is not fully charged."The crystal is below 100%
"This Crystal is not attuned to a legendary."The crystal has no attunement
"This Crystal's attunement is no longer recognized."The legendary is no longer available on this server
"The Altar is still settling. Try again shortly."The Altar is on cooldown. There is no cooldown by default, but servers can add one
"Finish your current battle before using the Altar."You are in a battle
"Finish your current rift or raid before using the Altar."You are in a rift or another raid

One Altar can hold one Convergence at a time. While it is running, other players who right-click it join the fight instead of starting a new one.

Joining with your own crystal

Other trainers join an open Convergence by right-clicking the same Altar (or its glowing portal) while holding a fully charged Legendary Crystal in the main hand.

  • The crystal does not need to be attuned.
  • Joining consumes neither the crystal nor its charge.
  • You cannot join from inside a battle or another rift.
  • You can join while the fight is still going. The boss's health pool grows to match the new roster.
You seeReason
"You step into the Convergence."You joined
"Hold a fully charged Legendary Crystal to join this Convergence."Wrong item in your main hand
"Fully charge this Legendary Crystal before joining."The crystal is below 100%
"This Convergence has reached its participant limit."The Convergence is full
"This Convergence has closed."The fight is already over
"Finish your current battle before joining this Convergence."You are in a battle
"Finish your current rift or raid before joining this Convergence."You are in a rift or another raid

The admission limit

By default a Convergence admits six trainers in total, counting the host. The limit counts everyone who has ever been admitted, not who is in the arena right now:

  • If you disconnect or leave, you can come back by right-clicking the Altar again with a fully charged crystal. Your place is saved, so you can reconnect even when the Convergence is at its limit, as long as the Convergence is still running. If the last trainer still fighting disconnects, the Convergence ends.
  • A new player cannot take the place of someone who has already been admitted, even if that player has left.

Servers can change the limit or remove it. See Configuration.

The fight

The Convergence is a shared-health raid, like a rift, with the same Cheers. Each trainer fights in their own parallel battle against the same health pool. See Joining & fighting an incursion for how shared battles work.

Boss health. The legendary's health grows with the number of active trainers, adding 85% of the solo health for each trainer after the first:

Trainers123456
Health multiplier1.00x1.85x2.70x3.55x4.40x5.25x

When someone joins or leaves, the pool is rescaled so the boss keeps the same percentage of its health.

Cheers. Every trainer gets 3 Cheers by default, the same Attack, Defense and Heal Cheer items you use in rifts.

Knockouts. Unlike rifts, a Convergence has no limit on battle attempts: if your team faints, you can walk back to the boss and challenge it again while another trainer is still fighting. The Convergence is lost as soon as nobody is left fighting, so a solo host who is knocked out loses it immediately.

Victory and the Weakened Legendary

When the legendary falls, a Weakened Legendary appears where it stood. It is a glowing marker of the legendary, not a creature you can attack.

  • It lasts 5 minutes by default.
  • You stay in the arena during that time, then are sent home when it closes.
  • Only trainers who were admitted to the Convergence can seal it, and you have to be at the Weakened Legendary to do so. Stay in the arena until you have used your attempt.

Sealing

Sealing is how you catch the legendary.

  1. Hold a fully charged Legendary Crystal in your main hand.
  2. Right-click the Weakened Legendary.

Your crystal is spent and a battle starts against a level 70 copy of the legendary. It is a normal Cobblemon battle:

  • Throw any ball in the usual way. Capture rates and mechanics are unchanged, and this mod does not restrict any ball.
  • The battle is private to you. Other trainers cannot interrupt it or throw balls at your legendary.
  • You can win, lose, flee, knock it out or catch it. The legendary disappears when the battle ends, caught or not.

The crystal is always consumed, win or lose, once the battle has started. The only exception is if the battle fails to begin; you then keep your crystal.

Crystal stateAfter sealing
Not attuned (the host's crystal after summoning, or any freshly charged one)Consumed completely
Still attuned (for example a joiner's crystal)You receive an attuned Depleted Crystal. See Legendary Crystals & attunement

Attempts. Each admitted trainer gets one Seal attempt per Convergence by default. Servers can also set a total cap across all trainers.

If the window closes while a Seal battle is still going, the arena stays open for up to 15 more minutes by default so you can finish it.

You seeReason
"Only Convergence participants may seal this legendary."You were never admitted to this Convergence
"Hold a fully-charged Legendary Crystal to seal."Wrong item, or the crystal is below 100%
"You have already sealed this legendary."You used your attempt
"This legendary can be sealed no further."The server's total attempt cap is used up
"Finish your current battle first."You are already in a battle
"The weakened legendary has faded."The window ran out
"The seal failed to take hold. Your Crystal is unharmed."The battle could not start. Try again
"This weakened legendary is already being sealed."You tried to battle or throw a ball at somebody else's legendary

When it goes wrong

  • The party is defeated. The Convergence ends. The attunement spent at the Altar is gone, so you need to attune the crystal again at a new Chaotic remnant. Crystals that only joined are not affected.
  • The Altar is broken, or the server stops. The Convergence ends at once.
  • The Seal window runs out. The Weakened Legendary fades and you can no longer seal. Your crystal is still yours if you did not start a Seal battle.
  • You failed to catch it. The legendary is gone. A new try needs a new Convergence.
