Installation

Brecher's Hyperspace Rifts is a Cobblemon addon for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge and Fabric. The server and every client must have the mod installed. It adds screens, HUD elements and renderers, so a client without a matching jar cannot join the rift content. A client that is missing the mod or has an incompatible version is refused before any rift state begins.

Requirements

KotlinKotlin for Forge 5.10 or newerFabric Language Kotlin (any version)
OthernoneFabric API 0.116.12 or newer

Both loaders run the same gameplay code and accept the same configuration keys.

Cobblemon 1.8.x itself requires Kotlin for Forge 5.10 or newer on NeoForge. An older Kotlin for Forge shows up on NeoForge's dependency screen instead of crashing during startup.

Cobblemon compatibility

  • Supported Cobblemon versions are 1.7.3 through every 1.8.x release. Version 1.9.0 and later are rejected until they have been tested.
  • The boss pool is built automatically from the Pokémon your Cobblemon version implements, so it grows when you update Cobblemon. For example, moving from Cobblemon 1.7 to 1.8 added newly implemented species to the pool, and new rifts can draw them. Bosses of rifts that already exist stay the same. Review the larger pool as a content change before rolling out a Cobblemon update.
  • Pokémon addon packs work too. Any species that an addon marks as implemented but whose base stats are still placeholder zeros is left out of the boss pool, because it cannot be fought as a boss. A single [BOSS-ROSTER] excluded N implemented species with unusable base stats warning in the server log lists each excluded species. This warning is normal for such packs and needs no action.

Jar files

Use the jar that matches your loader:

LoaderFile name
NeoForgebrecher_hyperspace_rifts-<version>-1.21.1_neoforge.jar
Fabricbrecher_hyperspace_rifts-<version>-1.21.1_fabric.jar

Put the jar in the mods folder of the server and of every client, together with the dependencies from the table above. Keep exactly one Brecher's Hyperspace Rifts jar in each mods folder. Only use jars from official release channels.

First start

  1. Start the server once with the mod installed. It creates its configuration file with the default values (see Configuration for the exact location per loader).
  2. Stop the server, adjust the file if you want to, and start it again. NeoForge applies configuration changes only on restart.
  3. Operators can check the setup with /brecherhyperspacerifts status (see Commands).
  4. Rifts begin to appear in the overworld automatically. To test immediately, run /brecherhyperspacerifts rift spawn stable at your position.
  5. New players can craft the in-game guide, Brecher's Rifts, from a Book and an Amethyst Shard.

Upgrading

  1. Stop the server and back up the world and the config folder.
  2. Replace the old jar with the new one on the server and on every client. Remove the old jar so only one version is present.
  3. Read the changelog page of this mod on the wiki for configuration or compatibility notes.
  4. Start the server.

Things to know:

  • Upgrades within 0.9.x read existing worlds and existing configuration files unchanged. Settings you changed stay authoritative.
  • Incursions that are in progress do not survive a restart. On startup they are resolved as failed: participants receive consolation payouts and their Pokémon are healed on next login. Schedule updates for a time with no active rift, Convergence or Seal battle.
  • On NeoForge, the first launch of 0.9.7 or newer moves an old config/brecher_hyperspace_rifts-common.toml into the config/brecher_hyperspace_rifts/ folder automatically.
  • Run the same version of the mod on the server and on every client, and update clients together with the server. A client without the mod, or with an incompatible network protocol, cannot join.

Removing the mod

  • Stop the server and back up the world first.
  • The mod's blocks (rifts, Convergence Altars, Legendary Remnants) disappear from the world and its items (Rift Dust, Rift Shards, Crystals, Resonators and so on) are lost from inventories and containers. Pokémon that players already caught are normal Cobblemon Pokémon and are not affected.
  • Make sure no player is inside a rift arena or Convergence when you remove the mod, and let all active incursions finish first.
  • Test the removal on a copy of the world before doing it on a live server.

Several servers and proxies

The mod has no proxy-specific setup. Every server that runs it keeps its own rifts, and clients need the mod installed for each such server. Keep the mod version identical across servers that share players.

Reporting problems

Include the loader, the exact versions of the mod, Minecraft and Cobblemon, the relevant configuration, and a short log excerpt. See Troubleshooting for common player-side problems.
