Legendary Crystals & attunement
The Legendary Crystal is your key to the endgame. A crystal has two properties, both shown in its tooltip:
- Charge (0% to 100%), earned by fighting in rifts.
- Attunement, the legendary species it is tied to, earned from a Chaotic rift.
You need a crystal that is 100% charged and attuned to open a Convergence against that legendary. You need a 100% charged crystal to seal it afterwards.
Charge: 40%
Unattuned
Crafting a Legendary Crystal
Place 8 Rift Shards around 1 Apex Token in the crafting grid, with the Apex Token in the center. A new crystal starts at 0% charge and is unattuned. See Rewards & the rift economy for how to get Shards and Apex Tokens.
Crystals do not stack: each one is its own item, and you can carry as many as you like.
Charging a crystal
A crystal charges when you take part in a rift incursion while carrying it. Fighting in someone else's Convergence charges it too: once per Convergence, at the boss's tier rate (16% for the usual Chaotic-tier legendaries), and the message appears straight away.

What counts
- You must deal real damage to the boss in a stage. Joining a rift and standing in the arena earns nothing.
- Charge is awarded once per stage, to one crystal, the first time you damage that stage's boss. You get it even if the party loses the stage.
- The amount depends on the rift's tier. These are the defaults:
| Tier | Charge per stage | Stages | Full run, from the first turn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fading | 2% | 1 | 2% |
| Stable | 4% | 1 | 4% |
| Unstable | 6% | 2 | 12% |
| Volatile | 10% | 3 | 30% |
| Chaotic | 16% | 5 | 80% |
- If you join a stage late, the award is reduced in proportion to the boss's remaining health when you joined. Joining a stage that is already at half health earns about half the charge.
- Charge never goes down, and it caps at 100%. A crystal at 100% is skipped.
For example, one full Chaotic run (80%) plus one full Volatile run (30%) fills a crystal from empty.
Which crystal gets the charge
The crystal must be in your inventory, in one of these places, checked in this order:
- Your main hand.
- Your off hand.
- Your hotbar or main inventory. Here, the crystal closest to full wins. Attuned crystals are not chosen from the inventory, so an attuned crystal only charges while you hold it in either hand.
Crystals stored in a Crystal Pouch, a chest or an ender chest never charge. Put a finished crystal in a pouch to be sure it is never the one picked.
How charge is shown
- Hover over the crystal to see
Charge: N%. - When a stage ends, a message such as
Crystal charged: 0% → 16%appears. During a multi-stage rift it shows up when the between-stage screen opens, and after the final stage when the rift closes. It does not appear in the middle of a battle.
Attunement at a Legendary Remnant
Only a Chaotic rift can attune a crystal.
-
Clear all five stages of a Chaotic rift. See Rewards & the rift economy for how to make one with a Chaotic Omen.
-
When the final boss, the legendary shown in the rift preview, falls, a glowing Legendary Remnant of that species forms in the arena where the boss stood.

-
Hold an unattuned crystal in your main hand and right-click the remnant. You see a message such as "Your Crystal attuned to Mewtwo!", and the crystal now shows
Attuned: Mewtwoin its tooltip. Its charge is not changed.
How long it lasts. The remnant stays for the same 5-minute window as the "Rift closing" countdown that follows the final victory. When the window ends, everyone is sent home and the remnant is gone.
Who can use it. The remnant appears inside the arena, so only the players who fought the rift can reach it. It is first come, first served: by default a remnant grants one attunement in total, no matter how many players were in the party. Once someone has used it, it disappears and everyone else sees "This remnant has already been claimed." Servers can raise the number of attunements or give every player their own. See Configuration. Coordinate with your party before anyone clicks.
Rules for attuning
| You are... | Result |
|---|---|
| Holding an unattuned Legendary Crystal | The crystal is attuned to the boss species |
| Holding an already attuned crystal | "This Crystal is already attuned." An attunement cannot be overwritten |
| Holding another item | "Only a Legendary Crystal can attune to a remnant." |
| Empty-handed | You receive an attuned Depleted Crystal (see below) |
| Too late | "This remnant has faded." |
You can use the remnant only with your main hand.
Depleted Crystals
If you have no crystal ready, right-click the remnant with an empty hand. The remnant forms an attuned Depleted Crystal for you instead, with the message "A depleted crystal forms, attuned to Mewtwo." This counts as your use of the remnant, exactly like attuning a crystal.
A Depleted Crystal carries the attunement but has no charge. To turn it back into a usable crystal, reconstitute it: place the Depleted Crystal in the center of the crafting grid with 8 Rift Shards around it. The result is a Legendary Crystal that keeps the attunement and starts at 0% charge. You still need to charge it fully before you can use it.
You also get an attuned Depleted Crystal back when you seal a legendary with a crystal that was still attuned.
Rules and limits
- One summon per attunement. Opening a Convergence at the Altar removes the attunement from the crystal. It keeps its charge. To summon again you must attune it again at another Chaotic remnant.
- One crystal is spent per seal. Sealing uses up the crystal whether you catch the legendary or not.
- Stacking. Crystals never stack. You can own and charge as many as you like, but each stage only charges one.
- Trading. Crystals are ordinary items. You can drop them, trade them and store them in chests. There is no recovery if one is lost, destroyed or picked up by someone else.
- Attunement and charge stay on the item. They survive being moved into a pouch or chest.
- Servers may change the numbers. Remnant attunement limits and the Convergence rules are configurable. See Configuration.
Next step
With a charged, attuned crystal you can place an Altar and begin the Convergence.
